Barton Creek Lift Station – City of Austin
The Barton Creek Lift Station project involved the design of the electrical systems at this temporary lift station. This project was designed with three pumps and the associated control systems to operate and maintain the lift station. The system for the wet well provides power to the pumps and monitors the status of the wet well. A programmable logic controller monitors the pumps based on input relayed from monitoring devices in the wet well and reports the pump status to a remote location. A portable generator supplies electricity in case of a power failure. The power and control cables are mounted on cable reels to allow easy removal from the well, should the pumps require service. The system is designed to alternate use of the pumps within the wet well, to increase the life of the equipment. In the event of equipment malfunction, a warning is displayed on the control panel and sent to a remote monitoring station.
The station was designed to reuse a portable generator from another lift station which will be taken offline when the Barton Creek Lift Station is completed. The use of the generator was coordinated so backup power will be available to an operating lift station during construction, and transferred to the new location when it becomes fully operational.
Project Challenges
- Provide power to pumps in wet well
- Support cables in 65' wet well shaft
- Re-use of existing portable generator
