Oakmont Office Building

The two-story Oakmont Office Building is the cornerstone of a group of four structures sited together to form an innovative office park. Encotech Engineering provided structural and MEP Engineering services for the Oakmont Building, which served as a prototype for neighboring structures.

Encotech designed the building on a foundation consisting of concrete piers with perimeter grade beams and a floating interior slab. The superstructure of the building is a structural steel frame with integral steel frames to accommodate the forces imposed by wind. The floor and roof diaphragms are framed with open web steel joists throughout.

To achieve a contemporary appearance, an alternating system of light gage wall studs and metal curtain-walls was utilized to flesh out the building. As a finishing touch, a series of aluminum sunscreens were employed. The alternating wall systems, the aluminum sunscreens, and the use of specialized metal stairs each posed interesting project challenges.

While the design of the storefront system was supplied by the manufacturer, Encotech provided important coordination between the manufacturer and the requirements of the Uniform Building Code for the attachment of the sunscreens to this system. Encotech’s responsibilities on this project also involved significant coordination of the mechanical and electrical systems within the building envelope during the design and construction period.
