Pilot Knob Pump Station

Austin, Texas

The Pilot Knob Pump station is a new 22 MGD pump station located at the Pilot Knob Reservoir.  Construction of this pump station was part of the larger South IH-35 Water/Wastewater Program, which was being instituted in order to address the water and wastewater infrastructure needs of the rapidly growing South Austin population.  The Pilot Knob Pump Station supplies water to new developments in the City’s South Pressure Zone.

Encotech provided complete HVAC and domestic water/wastewater plumbing design services for the project.  The mechanical scope of work included the design of the heating and cooling system, design of air ventilation of the pump motors, and design of the ventilation system.  The building’s water/wastewater plumbing design includes domestic water, wastewater, and hot water systems, as well as gas piping systems for building heating and condensate piping for the HVAC units.

Encotech provided Structural and Civil Engineering services while assisting the design team of Pilot Knob Pump Station by designing the water quality and detention pond structure.  Due to existing site clearance requirements and other constraints, the ponds were defined by reinforced concrete retaining walls in lieu of earthen berms.  Encotech used pictorial representations of the pond structure’s layout in the construction documents to aide in the description of the in-pond contouring and flow metering complex.  The use of concrete structure allowed the footprint of the pond complex to be as restrained as possible avoiding surrounding obstacles and existing site improvements.
