Austin Fire Department
Most of the Austin Fire Department facilities were constructed before the recruitment policies included women in fire fighting and rescue roles. To maintain its reputation as a leader in fire service, AFD initiated a campaign to renovate over 30 fire stations in order to accommodate its growing population of female employees.
Encotech was retained to provide Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing Engineering services for the design development phase of their City of Austin Architectural Rotation List assignment. This project involved the evaluation of proposed architectural changes to the shower and locker areas at Austin Fire Department Stations No. 05, 07, 22, 24, 26, and 27.
Encotech conducted detailed research into the proposals for each station and determined the feasibility of the proposed improvements based on partially documented existing systems, which required investigation of changing field conditions at each site. The resulting reports were used to assist the Owner in prioritizing station improvements and selecting the most feasible sites for the budget cycle.
